The purpose of this retreat is to expose participants to ancient and traditional methods of self-cultivation; Focusing on Physical, Mental and
Spiritual essences. The four(4) following styles will be taught at this retreat.
Qi Gung (Chi-kung), is defined as a special method of cultivating one's internal energy. It litterally means 'The science of producing energy for self'. By practicing this unique set of movements a student will find their energy levels developing to a high degree. This will be achieved as each person learns the special theraputic movements of the form then practice in a group setting. The taoist or old technique will be taught as it has been handed down from its founder, the great immortal master "Chand San-feng" of the Sung Dynasty (960-1278).
Tai-Ji Quan Sun Lu-tang was the foremost exponent of the Hsin-I Chuan and Pa-Kuo Chang styles before he studied Tai-Ji Quan under Kuo Wei-jin. He was 50 years of age and a master of both of the other styles before learning Tai-Ji Cuan from Kuo. His example of humbly seeking knowledge when he was already an expert is an inspiration to all os us. The Sun style Tai Ji Quan, is characterized by small circular movements and high stances. The pattern called "Opening and Closing" is one of particular importance in the style. It is used to develop inner energy. Tai Ji relaxes the mind as well the body. It helps degestion, quiets the nervous system, benefits the heart and blood cirulation, makes joints loose, and refreshes the skin. The taoist founder of Tai-ji Quan is reported to have stated, "This set of exercises will lead many practitioners to health, happiness, and longevity. Self-defense is secondary.
Chen Family Short Staff Form, traces its origin to students of the late grandmaster "Chen Fa-ke", of Chen Chia Kou Village. Philosophically, the short staff manifest the principles of simplicity, yet being versatile, hardy, yet compassionate. A short staff if made to defend almost any kind of offensive attack. However, this particular form trains chi to flow into the weapon, using it as it it were an integral part of the body. When the student has accomplished this skill, the short staff will flow endlessly as directed by the mind, without any physical effort or loss of stamina.This set teaches more importantyl that when the basic principles of Tai Ji Quan is combined with any short stick, its effectiveness for self-defense is second to none. This routine is an internal set.
Chaan meditation is a process having the intent of stiling the mind so that it is like a wall, stopping random movements inside and outside, exiting and entering,coming and going. The treasury of the eye of true teaching, the ineffable mind of nirvana. The form of reality is formless! This special meditation as taught from traditional chinese basis will help show how to escape from the realm of miseries and suffering. The transmission of the mind dharma, its hand postures and mantra's are taught to show how enlightenment can be obtained. When the mind is under self-control all things within reason become possible. Stress, discomfort or ill-feelings no longer have power on the individual. Chaan meditation will help the mind-flower to blossom and radiate, illuminating all the ten directions.
